Jewish Week Leipzig 2021

During my internship at HawaiiF3, a creative graphic agency based in Leipzig known for its innovative design solutions and collaborative approach, I had the opportunity to work on a meaningful cultural project. Our client was the organizers of the Jewish Week in Leipzig, an annual festival celebrating Jewish culture, history, and contemporary contributions through events, lectures, and performances.

I contributed the initial concept for the visual identity. Building on this concept, the team developed posters, banners, and program booklets, creating a cohesive and engaging visual presence for the event.

Requirements

The design requirements for the project called for an appearance that is stimulating, surprising, modern, lively, and innovative, while also being eye-catching and bold. The design should captivate a broad target audience, including school pupils, students, trainees, families, and older visitors, ensuring accessibility and appeal across generations. The overall concept needed to create curiosity and excitement, presenting the event as a vibrant and contemporary celebration for people of all ages.

Font

The Whyte Inktrap font used is a contemporary sans-serif typeface distinguished by its unique ink trap details. These features give the font a distinctive, bold appearance while ensuring maximum legibility at large and small sizes, making it ideal for impactful, attention-grabbing designs. Whyte Inktrap’s geometric structure and crisp lines deliver a modern and approachable aesthetic.

Its innovative design aligns perfectly with the project’s goals of surprise, innovation, and vibrancy. The ink traps themselves act as subtle visual accents that both intrigue and reinforce the poster’s contemporary feel.

Poster

The poster combines bold typography and striking visual elements to create a modern, celebratory look. The background features large, black sans-serif lettering, delivering the event’s details in a direct, impactful manner while ensuring maximum readability and presence. Overlaying the text are glossy, 3D balloon-like Hebrew letters rendered in a vibrant purple, immediately drawing the viewer’s eye and evoking a sense of festivity and joy. These sculptural, playful forms symbolize celebration, fun, and the uplifting spirit of the event, deliberately contrasting with the otherwise minimal, structured layout.

The inclusion of traditional Hebrew script alongside contemporary design elements bridges historic and cultural depth with the present. The combination of dates, location, and web details makes the poster both informative and visually engaging, inviting a wide audience to join in the festivities and honoring 1700 years of Jewish heritage.
